Sleeping Beauty & The Benefits of Zzzzzz'z

While most of us love sleep, in the technological era of overstimulation we may not be getting quite enough. The benefits of sleep and the rising interest of how important sleep is in our lives is on the rise!

During the recommended 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep with a minimum of 6 hours, your skin's blood flow increases allowing your body to rebuild collagen and repair damage from UV exposure which reduces wrinkles and age spots.

Deep sleep increases your levels of melatonin and reduces cortisol levels which is the hormone responsible for producing stress, inflaming your skin to look sullen and puffy around the eyes all while breaking down the immune system.

You know you need more sleep but can't seem to put down your phone and close your eyes? You're not the only one! Limiting exposure to social media and technology in general 2 hours before bedtime with a minimum of at least 30 min can allow your mind to wind down, enabling your body to properly prepare for a fitful sleep and resupplying it with the replenishment it needs. It may seem difficult at first but I can assure you the benefits of restful sleep will outweigh the need to scroll just a little more.

Managing your time and getting into a good habit of preparing for proper sleep can be accomplished by consistently playing a chill or restful sleep playlist 2 hours prior to bedtime or my personal favorite is setting the mood early in the evening with my favorite ambience channel on YouTube.

Remember, only you can take action for the needs of your body and it begins with awareness and the accountability to take the steps needed that lead to a more healthy and beautiful you!
